Vulnerability in apache-airflow (CVE-2026-41017)
Summary
Vulnerability in apache-airflow (CVE-2026-41017). Confidential information can be exposed externally. Exploitable via JWTRefreshMiddleware. Mitigation: upgrade to 3.2.2 or later.
Original description
The description as published by the source.
Apache Airflow's JWTRefreshMiddleware set the JWT auth cookie without the Secure flag, so deployments running the Airflow API server behind an HTTPS-terminating reverse proxy (e.g. nginx / Envoy / a managed load balancer that terminates TLS and forwards plaintext to the API server, the default cloud-native topology) would have the user's session JWT replayed over any cleartext HTTP request to the same host. A network-positioned attacker (Wi-Fi MITM, hostile LAN, captive-portal proxy) could induce a logged-in user's browser to issue an HTTP request to the deployment's hostname and capture the JWT cookie out of that request, then replay it against the authenticated API. Affects deployments where the Airflow API server is reached through a TLS-terminating proxy and the cookie's secure-by-default protection is load-bearing for session integrity. Users are advised to upgrade to apache-airflow 3.2.2 or later.

CVE-2026-41017 (apache-airflow) — CWE-614 / CVSS v3 5.9
Attack vector: remote (network-reachable) / unauthenticated / no user interaction
Attack surface: JWTRefreshMiddleware / Secure
Patched: 3.2.2 — apply immediately
Plan: 1) Audit SBOM/dependencies, 2) Stage→prod upgrade, 3) Add WAF/proxy monitoring on affected endpoints, 4) Hunt IOCs in logs.
Refs: see the GHSA / vendor advisory / patched release linked on this page.
A vulnerability (CWE-614) exists in apache-airflow. Attackers reach the vulnerable code path via JWTRefreshMiddleware without authentication.
Check the vendor advisory for the affected versions of apache-airflow. Attack surface: JWTRefreshMiddleware / Secure.
Severity: Medium (CVSS 5.9/10). Confidential information can be exposed externally.
Update to 3.2.2.
Until the patch is applied: disable the affected feature, apply WAF rules, or restrict access via network ACLs.
Search webserver/proxy logs for unusual request patterns matching this CVE's known IOCs. Run grep -r 'apache-airflow' . against your dependency files (package-lock.json, requirements.txt, go.sum) to find affected services.
