Summary
vulnerability in linux (CVE-2026-43117). Confidential information can be exposed externally.
Original description
The description as published by the source.
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
btrfs: tracepoints: get correct superblock from dentry in event btrfs_sync_file()
If overlay is used on top of btrfs, dentry->d_sb translates to overlay's
super block and fsid assignment will lead to a crash.
Use file_inode(file)->i_sb to always get btrfs_sb.

AI summary
Written by an external AI model and may contain mistakes. Check the original description and references below before acting on it.
A critical issue has been found in the Linux kernel's btrfs filesystem. This problem can cause system crashes when parts of the filesystem are overlaid. This issue increases the risk of remote attacks, potentially impacting company data and systems. An immediate update of the kernel is recommended.
In the Linux kernel's btrfs filesystem, there is a vulnerability in the tracepoints for the btrfs_sync_file() event related to retrieving the correct superblock from a dentry. Specifically, when an overlay is used on top of btrfs, dentry->d_sb translates to the overlay's superblock, and fsid assignment could lead to a crash. This issue is resolved by consistently using btrfs_sb(file_inode(file)->i_sb). Affected range is unspecified, and it is fixed in version 6.7.
