Vulnerability in FFmpeg (CVE-2026-70629)
Summary
Vulnerability in FFmpeg (CVE-2026-70629). Confidential information can be exposed externally.
Original description
The description as published by the source.
FFmpeg versions from 3.0 up to, but not including, 9.0 contain an uninitialized heap memory read vulnerability in the native RSCC decoder (libavcodec/rscc.c) that allows attackers to disclose heap memory contents by supplying a crafted video file with a compressed tile that decompresses fewer bytes than the declared tile geometry requires. When rscc_decode_frame() calls av_image_copy_plane() without validating the decompressed byte count against the tile dimensions, the unwritten suffix of the persistent intermediate buffer ctx->inflated_buf is copied into the decoded frame, potentially exposing data from prior heap allocations or previous decoded frames in persistent decoding services.

Until the patch is applied: disable the affected feature, apply WAF rules, or restrict access via network ACLs.
Search webserver/proxy logs for unusual request patterns matching this CVE's known IOCs. Run grep -r 'FFmpeg' . against your dependency files (package-lock.json, requirements.txt, go.sum) to find affected services.
Response actions
Concrete steps and command examples for SOC/SRE teams to execute in order
-
1Identify exposure identify
grep -r 'FFmpeg' . | grep -v node_modulesリポジトリと本番環境の依存ファイル (package-lock.json / requirements.txt / go.sum / Gemfile.lock 等) で
FFmpegを grep し、稼働しているサービス・バージョンを把握する。 -
2Post-deployment verification verify
Confirm patched version is live in productionパッチ適用後、ステージングで PoC または同等の悪用パターンを再現して脆弱性が閉じたことを確認。本番ではアクセスログ・WAF でアラート再発が無いか継続監視。
