Unsafe Deserialization in concrete5/concrete5 (CVE-2026-8135)

Summary

Vulnerability in concrete5/concrete5 (CVE-2026-8135). Successful exploitation can lead to full system takeover. Mitigation: upgrade to 9.5.1 or later.

Original description

The description as published by the source.

Concrete CMS 9.5.0 and below is vulnerable to Remote Code Execution due to insecure deserialization occurring in the ExpressEntryList block controller. An rogue administrator with privileges to add blocks to an area can bypass the intended protection mechanism (_fromCIF === true), which normally restricts malicious inputs over form POST requests, by leveraging the REST API functionality. Because the REST API parses requests using json_decode(), the string "true" is evaluated as a strict PHP Boolean(true).  This bypass allows the attacker to inject a malicious serialized payload  into the block's filterFields database column. The payload will subsequently be executed when the block's data is viewed or edited by an administrator leading to complete server takeover (RCE). Concrete CMS thanks Nguyễn Văn Thiện https://github.com/Thien225409  for reporting this issue.

❓ What is the problem

Unsafe deserialization (CWE-502) exists in concrete5/concrete5.

📍 Affected scope

Check the vendor advisory for the affected versions of concrete5/concrete5.

🔥 Severity

Severity: High (CVSS 7.2/10). Successful exploitation can lead to full system takeover.

🔧 How to fix

Update to 9.5.1.

🛡️ Workaround

Until the patch is applied: disable the affected feature, apply WAF rules, or restrict access via network ACLs.

🔍 Detection

Search webserver/proxy logs for unusual request patterns matching this CVE's known IOCs. Run grep -r 'concrete5/concrete5' . against your dependency files (package-lock.json, requirements.txt, go.sum) to find affected services.

Response actions

Concrete steps and command examples for SOC/SRE teams to execute in order

  1. 1
    Identify exposure identify
    grep -r 'concrete5/concrete5' . | grep -v node_modules

    リポジトリと本番環境の依存ファイル (package-lock.json / requirements.txt / go.sum / Gemfile.lock 等) で concrete5/concrete5 を grep し、稼働しているサービス・バージョンを把握する。

  2. 2
    Apply patch patch
    Upgrade concrete5/concrete5 to 9.5.1

    ステージング環境で 9.5.1 に上げて回帰テスト → 本番反映。回帰テストはアプリの主要ハッピーパスを含めること。

  3. 3
    Post-deployment verification verify
Confirm patched version is live in production

    パッチ適用後、ステージングで PoC または同等の悪用パターンを再現して脆弱性が閉じたことを確認。本番ではアクセスログ・WAF でアラート再発が無いか継続監視。
