CVE-2017-7200 medium CVSS 5.8

SSRF (Server-Side Request Forgery) in glance (CVE-2017-7200)

Summary

SSRF in glance (CVE-2017-7200). Risk of unauthorized operations or information disclosure. Mitigation: upgrade to 11.0.0a0 or later.

Original description

The description as published by the source.

An SSRF issue was discovered in OpenStack Glance before Newton. The 'copy_from' feature in the Image Service API v1 allowed an attacker to perform masked network port scans. With v1, it is possible to create images with a URL such as 'http://localhost:22'. This could then allow an attacker to enumerate internal network details while appearing masked, since the scan would appear to originate from the Glance Image service.

Response actions

Concrete steps and command examples for SOC/SRE teams to execute in order

  1. 1
    Identify exposure identify
    grep -r 'glance' . | grep -v node_modules

  2. 2
    Apply patch patch
    Upgrade glance to 11.0.0a0

  3. 3
    Post-deployment verification verify
Confirm patched version is live in production
