Vulnerability in Caddy (CVE-2018-19148)
Summary
Vulnerability in Caddy (CVE-2018-19148). Risk of unauthorized operations or information disclosure. Exploitable via Host header.
Original description
The description as published by the source.
Caddy through 0.11.0 sends incorrect certificates for certain invalid requests, making it easier for attackers to enumerate hostnames. Specifically, when unable to match a Host header with a vhost in its configuration, it serves the X.509 certificate for a randomly selected vhost in its configuration. Repeated requests (with a nonexistent hostname in the Host header) permit full enumeration of all certificates on the server. This generally permits an attacker to easily and accurately discover the existence of and relationships among hostnames that weren't meant to be public, though this information could likely have been discovered via other methods with additional effort.

CVE-2018-19148 (Caddy)
Attack vector: remote (network-reachable) / unauthenticated / no user interaction
Attack surface: Host header
Plan: 1) Audit SBOM/dependencies, 2) Stage→prod upgrade, 3) Add WAF/proxy monitoring on affected endpoints, 4) Hunt IOCs in logs.
Refs: see the GHSA / vendor advisory / patched release linked on this page.
A vulnerability (unclassified) exists in Caddy. Attackers reach the vulnerable code path via Host header without authentication.
Check the vendor advisory for the affected versions of Caddy. Attack surface: Host header.
Severity: ?. Risk of unauthorized operations or information disclosure.
Update to the patched release per vendor advisory.
Until the patch is applied: disable the affected feature, apply WAF rules, or restrict access via network ACLs.
Search webserver/proxy logs for unusual request patterns matching this CVE's known IOCs. Run grep -r 'Caddy' . against your dependency files (package-lock.json, requirements.txt, go.sum) to find affected services.
Response actions

-
1Identify exposure identify
grep -r 'Caddy' . | grep -v node_modulesリポジトリと本番環境の依存ファイル (package-lock.json / requirements.txt / go.sum / Gemfile.lock 等) で
Caddyを grep し、稼働しているサービス・バージョンを把握する。 -
2Post-deployment verification verify
Confirm patched version is live in productionパッチ適用後、ステージングで PoC または同等の悪用パターンを再現して脆弱性が閉じたことを確認。本番ではアクセスログ・WAF でアラート再発が無いか継続監視。
