Vulnerability in OpenSSL (CVE-2019-1549)
Summary
Vulnerability in OpenSSL (CVE-2019-1549). Risk of unauthorized operations or information disclosure.
Original description
The description as published by the source.
OpenSSL 1.1.1 introduced a rewritten random number generator (RNG). This was intended to include protection in the event of a fork() system call in order to ensure that the parent and child processes did not share the same RNG state. However this protection was not being used in the default case. A partial mitigation for this issue is that the output from a high precision timer is mixed into the RNG state so the likelihood of a parent and child process sharing state is significantly reduced. If an application already calls OPENSSL_init_crypto() explicitly using OPENSSL_INIT_ATFORK then this problem does not occur at all. Fixed in OpenSSL 1.1.1d (Affected 1.1.1-1.1.1c).

If unsure, ask your IT team or search "OpenSSL CVE-2019-1549" on the vendor's site.
CVE-2019-1549 (OpenSSL)
Attack vector: remote (network-reachable) / unauthenticated / no user interaction
Affected: 1.1.1 - 1.1.1c
Plan: 1) Audit SBOM/dependencies, 2) Stage→prod upgrade, 3) Add WAF/proxy monitoring on affected endpoints, 4) Hunt IOCs in logs.
Refs: see the GHSA / vendor advisory / patched release linked on this page.
A vulnerability (unclassified) exists in OpenSSL.
Affected versions of OpenSSL: 1.1.1 - 1.1.1c.
Severity: ?. Risk of unauthorized operations or information disclosure.
Update to the patched release per vendor advisory. (If a vulnerable version 1.1.1 - 1.1.1c is in production, plan an immediate maintenance window.)
Until the patch is applied: disable the affected feature, apply WAF rules, or restrict access via network ACLs.
Search webserver/proxy logs for unusual request patterns matching this CVE's known IOCs. Run grep -r 'OpenSSL' . against your dependency files (package-lock.json, requirements.txt, go.sum) to find affected services.
Response actions
Concrete steps and command examples for SOC/SRE teams to execute in order
-
1Identify exposure identify
grep -r 'OpenSSL' . | grep -v node_modulesリポジトリと本番環境の依存ファイル (package-lock.json / requirements.txt / go.sum / Gemfile.lock 等) で
OpenSSLを grep し、稼働しているサービス・バージョンを把握する。 -
2Match against affected range verify
Confirm if version satisfies `1.1.1 - 1.1.1c`Step 1 で見つかったバージョンが影響範囲
1.1.1 - 1.1.1cに該当するか照合。本番で稼働中ならインシデント扱い。 -
3Post-deployment verification verify
Confirm patched version is live in productionパッチ適用後、ステージングで PoC または同等の悪用パターンを再現して脆弱性が閉じたことを確認。本番ではアクセスログ・WAF でアラート再発が無いか継続監視。
