Vulnerability in DCMTK (CVE-2021-41689)

Summary

Vulnerability in DCMTK (CVE-2021-41689). Risk of unauthorized operations or information disclosure.

Original description

The description as published by the source.

DCMTK through 3.6.6 does not handle string copy properly. Sending specific requests to the dcmqrdb program, it would query its database and copy the result even if the result is null, which can incur a head-based overflow. An attacker can use it to launch a DoS attack.

Response actions

Concrete steps and command examples for SOC/SRE teams to execute in order

  1. 1
    Identify exposure identify
    grep -r 'DCMTK' . | grep -v node_modules

  2. 2
    Post-deployment verification verify
Confirm patched version is live in production
