CVE-2024-35901 high CVSS 7.5

Vulnerability in Linux kernel (CVE-2024-35901)

Summary

Vulnerability in Linux kernel (CVE-2024-35901). Risk of unauthorized operations or information disclosure.

Original description

The description as published by the source.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

net: mana: Fix Rx DMA datasize and skb_over_panic

mana_get_rxbuf_cfg() aligns the RX buffer's DMA datasize to be
multiple of 64. So a packet slightly bigger than mtu+14, say 1536,
can be received and cause skb_over_panic.

Sample dmesg:
[ 5325.237162] skbuff: skb_over_panic: text:ffffffffc043277a len:1536 put:1536 head:ff1100018b517000 data:ff1100018b517100 tail:0x700 end:0x6ea dev:

[ 5325.326328] net_rx_action+0x12e/0x280

As discussed internally, this alignment is not necessary. To fix
this bug, remove it from the code. So oversized packets will be
marked as CQE_RX_TRUNCATED by NIC, and dropped.

❓ What is the problem

A vulnerability (CWE-401) exists in Linux kernel.

📍 Affected scope

Check the vendor advisory for the affected versions of Linux kernel.

🔥 Severity

Severity: High (CVSS 7.5/10). Risk of unauthorized operations or information disclosure.

🔧 How to fix

Update to the patched release per vendor advisory.

🛡️ Workaround

Until the patch is applied: disable the affected feature, apply WAF rules, or restrict access via network ACLs.

🔍 Detection

Search webserver/proxy logs for unusual request patterns matching this CVE's known IOCs. Audit SBOM/dependencies to find affected services.

Response actions

Concrete steps and command examples for SOC/SRE teams to execute in order

  1. 1
    Identify exposure identify
    Audit SBOM/dependencies for affected components.

    資産台帳・SBOM・依存マニフェストで Linux kernel を使っているサービスとバージョンを洗い出す。

  2. 2
    Post-deployment verification verify
Confirm patched version is live in production

    パッチ適用後、ステージングで PoC または同等の悪用パターンを再現して脆弱性が閉じたことを確認。本番ではアクセスログ・WAF でアラート再発が無いか継続監視。
