CVE-2024-49571 (Linux kernel) — CVSS v3 9.1
Attack vector: remote (network-reachable) / unauthenticated / no user interaction
Plan: 1) Audit SBOM/dependencies, 2) Stage→prod upgrade, 3) Add WAF/proxy monitoring on affected endpoints, 4) Hunt IOCs in logs.
Refs: see the GHSA / vendor advisory / patched release linked on this page.
A vulnerability (unclassified) exists in Linux kernel.
Check the vendor advisory for the affected versions of Linux kernel.
Severity: Critical (CVSS 9.1/10). Confidential information can be exposed externally.
Update to the patched release per vendor advisory.
Until the patch is applied: disable the affected feature, apply WAF rules, or restrict access via network ACLs.
Search webserver/proxy logs for unusual request patterns matching this CVE's known IOCs. Audit SBOM/dependencies to find affected services.

Original description The description as published by the source.
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
net/smc: check iparea_offset and ipv6_prefixes_cnt when receiving proposal msg
When receiving proposal msg in server, the field iparea_offset
and the field ipv6_prefixes_cnt in proposal msg are from the
remote client and can not be fully trusted. Especially the
field iparea_offset, once exceed the max value, there has the
chance to access wrong address, and crash may happen.
This patch checks iparea_offset and ipv6_prefixes_cnt before using them.
