Vulnerability in Kernel (CVE-2025-71156)
Summary
Vulnerability in Kernel (CVE-2025-71156). Risk of unauthorized operations or information disclosure. Exploitable via IRQF_NO_AUTOEN. Mitigation: upgrade to 6.12.64, 6.18.4 or later.
Original description
The description as published by the source.
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
gve: defer interrupt enabling until NAPI registration
Currently, interrupts are automatically enabled immediately upon
request. This allows interrupt to fire before the associated NAPI
context is fully initialized and cause failures like below:

[ 0.946369] RIP: 0010:pv_native_safe_halt+0xb/0x10
Use the IRQF_NO_AUTOEN flag when requesting interrupts to prevent auto
enablement and explicitly enable the interrupt in NAPI initialization
path (and disable it during NAPI teardown).
This ensures that interrupt lifecycle is strictly coupled with
readiness of NAPI context.

CVE-2025-71156 (Kernel)
Attack surface: IRQF_NO_AUTOEN
Patched: 6.12.64, 6.18.4 — apply immediately
Plan: 1) Audit SBOM/dependencies, 2) Stage→prod upgrade, 3) Add WAF/proxy monitoring on affected endpoints, 4) Hunt IOCs in logs.
Refs: see the GHSA / vendor advisory / patched release linked on this page.
A vulnerability (unclassified) exists in Kernel. Attackers reach the vulnerable code path via IRQF_NO_AUTOEN.
Check the vendor advisory for the affected versions of Kernel. Attack surface: IRQF_NO_AUTOEN.
Severity: ?. Risk of unauthorized operations or information disclosure.
Update to 6.12.64, 6.18.4.
Until the patch is applied: disable the affected feature, apply WAF rules, or restrict access via network ACLs.
Search webserver/proxy logs for unusual request patterns matching this CVE's known IOCs. Run grep -r 'Kernel' . against your dependency files (package-lock.json, requirements.txt, go.sum) to find affected services.
