Vulnerability in bugsink (CVE-2026-40162)
Summary
Vulnerability in bugsink (CVE-2026-40162). Data can be tampered with by attackers. Mitigation: upgrade to 2.1.1 or later.
Original description
The description as published by the source.
Authenticated arbitrary file write in artifact bundle assembly
Summary
An authenticated file write vulnerability was identified in Bugsink 2.1.0 in the artifact bundle assembly flow.
A user with a valid authentication token could cause the application to write attacker-controlled content to a filesystem location writable by the Bugsink process.
This issue requires authentication and affects only version 2.1.0.
The issue is fixed in 2.1.1.
Impact
This vulnerability allows an authenticated user to create or overwrite files within locations writable by the Bugsink service account.
The practical impact depends on the deployment environment and filesystem permissions of the running process.
Possible consequences include:
- modification of application data files
- corruption of uploaded assets or temporary files
- overwriting files in mounted writable volumes
- disruption of normal application behavior
No unauthenticated exploitation is known.
No direct code execution has been demonstrated as part of this issue, though impact may be greater in deployments where the process has broad write permissions.
Affected versions
- Affected: 2.1.0
- Fixed: 2.1.1
- Not affected: earlier releases
Mitigation
Upgrade to 2.1.1.
As a defense-in-depth measure, deployments should continue to ensure the Bugsink process runs with the minimum required filesystem permissions.

CVE-2026-40162 (bugsink) — CWE-20
Attack vector: remote (network-reachable) / no user interaction
Patched: 2.1.1 — apply immediately
Plan: 1) Audit SBOM/dependencies, 2) Stage→prod upgrade, 3) Add WAF/proxy monitoring on affected endpoints, 4) Hunt IOCs in logs.
Refs: see the GHSA / vendor advisory / patched release linked on this page.
A vulnerability (CWE-20) exists in bugsink.
Check the vendor advisory for the affected versions of bugsink.
Severity: ?. Data can be tampered with by attackers.
Update to 2.1.1.
Until the patch is applied: disable the affected feature, apply WAF rules, or restrict access via network ACLs.
Search webserver/proxy logs for unusual request patterns matching this CVE's known IOCs. Run grep -r 'bugsink' . against your dependency files (package-lock.json, requirements.txt, go.sum) to find affected services.
Response actions
Concrete steps and command examples for SOC/SRE teams to execute in order
-
1Identify exposure identify
grep -r 'bugsink' . | grep -v node_modulesリポジトリと本番環境の依存ファイル (package-lock.json / requirements.txt / go.sum / Gemfile.lock 等) で
bugsinkを grep し、稼働しているサービス・バージョンを把握する。 -
2Apply patch patch
Upgrade bugsink to 2.1.1ステージング環境で 2.1.1 に上げて回帰テスト → 本番反映。回帰テストはアプリの主要ハッピーパスを含めること。
-
3Post-deployment verification verify
Confirm patched version is live in productionパッチ適用後、ステージングで PoC または同等の悪用パターンを再現して脆弱性が閉じたことを確認。本番ではアクセスログ・WAF でアラート再発が無いか継続監視。
