Code Injection in deepseek-tui (CVE-2026-45374)
Summary
Code injection in deepseek-tui (CVE-2026-45374). Successful exploitation can lead to full system takeover. Exploitable via task_create. Mitigation: upgrade to 0.8.26 or later.
Original description
The description as published by the source.
CodeWhale is a DeepSeek + MiMo coding agent in terminal. Prior to 0.8.26, the task_create tool spawns durable sub-agents that inherit two insecure defaults, allow_shell defaults to true (config.rs:1499: self.allow_shell.unwrap_or(true)) and auto_approve defaults to true (task_manager.rs:297: auto_approve: Some(true)). When a user approves a task_create call (which requires ApprovalRequirement::Required), they approve what appears to be a benign work prompt. However, the spawned sub-agent silently receives unrestricted, unapproved shell access. This vulnerability is fixed in 0.8.26.

CVE-2026-45374 (deepseek-tui) — CWE-94 / CVSS v3 9.6
Attack vector: remote (network-reachable) / unauthenticated
Attack surface: task_create / allow_shell / true / auto_approve
Patched: 0.8.26 — apply immediately
Plan: 1) Audit SBOM/dependencies, 2) Stage→prod upgrade, 3) Add WAF/proxy monitoring on affected endpoints, 4) Hunt IOCs in logs.
Refs: see the GHSA / vendor advisory / patched release linked on this page.
Arbitrary code execution (CWE-94) exists in deepseek-tui. Attackers reach the vulnerable code path via task_create without authentication.
Check the vendor advisory for the affected versions of deepseek-tui. Attack surface: task_create / allow_shell / true / auto_approve.
Severity: Critical (CVSS 9.6/10). Successful exploitation can lead to full system takeover.
Update to 0.8.26.
Until the patch is applied: disable the affected feature, apply WAF rules, or restrict access via network ACLs.
Search webserver/proxy logs for unusual request patterns matching this CVE's known IOCs. Run grep -r 'deepseek-tui' . against your dependency files (package-lock.json, requirements.txt, go.sum) to find affected services.
