CVE-2026-49476 high CVSS 7.5

Vulnerability in soupsieve (CVE-2026-49476)

Summary

Vulnerability in soupsieve (CVE-2026-49476). Risk of unauthorized operations or information disclosure. Exploitable via CSSSelector. Mitigation: upgrade to 2.8.4 or later.

Original description

The description as published by the source.

Soup Sieve is a CSS selector library designed to be used with Beautiful Soup 4. Prior to 2.8.4, the CSS selector parser in soupsieve allocates unbounded memory when compiling large comma-separated selector lists, allowing an attacker who can supply a crafted selector string to soupsieve.compile() or Beautiful Soup .select() / .select_one() to allocate hundreds of megabytes of heap memory from a relatively small input and cause denial of service. This issue is fixed in version 2.8.4.

Response actions

Concrete steps and command examples for SOC/SRE teams to execute in order

  1. 1
    Identify exposure identify
    grep -r 'soupsieve' . | grep -v node_modules

  2. 2
    Apply patch patch
    Upgrade soupsieve to 2.8.4

  3. 3
    Post-deployment verification verify
Confirm patched version is live in production
