OS Command Injection in libinput (CVE-2026-50265)

Summary

OS command injection in libinput (CVE-2026-50265). Successful exploitation can lead to full system takeover.

Original description

The description as published by the source.

A flaw was found in libinput. A local attacker with access to /dev/uinput can inject arbitrary udev properties through the libinput-device-group helper. This injection can lead to root code execution, for example, by exploiting REMOVE_CMD properties that are executed when a device is removed. This vulnerability allows an attacker to gain elevated privileges on the system.

Response actions

Concrete steps and command examples for SOC/SRE teams to execute in order

  1. 1
    Identify exposure identify
    grep -r 'libinput' . | grep -v node_modules

  2. 2
    Post-deployment verification verify
Confirm patched version is live in production
