CVE-2026-54135 high CVSS 7.5

Vulnerability in AirSane (CVE-2026-54135)

Summary

Vulnerability in AirSane (CVE-2026-54135). Risk of unauthorized operations or information disclosure.

Original description

The description as published by the source.

AirSane is a SANE frontend, and a scanner server that supports Apple's AirScan protocol. Versions prior to 0.4.12 have a vulnerability in the custom HTTP server implementation of AirSane that allows a remote unauthenticated attacker to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) via memory exhaustion (OOM). In httpserver.cpp, the HttpServer::Request::content function reads the Content-Length header and directly passes this value to std::string::resize() without any upper-bound validation or safe parsing. An attacker can send an HTTP POST request with an artificially large Content-Length value. This forces the daemon to attempt allocating gigabytes of memory, resulting in a std::bad_alloc exception and immediately crashing the AirSane process. Additionally, providing non-numeric characters in the Content-Length header leads to undefined behavior (NaN to integer conversion) due to the lack of error handling during header parsing. Version 0.4.12 patches the issue.

❓ What is the problem

A vulnerability (CWE-400) exists in AirSane.

📍 Affected scope

Check the vendor advisory for the affected versions of AirSane.

🔥 Severity

Severity: High (CVSS 7.5/10). Risk of unauthorized operations or information disclosure.

🔧 How to fix

Update to the patched release per vendor advisory.

🛡️ Workaround

Until the patch is applied: disable the affected feature, apply WAF rules, or restrict access via network ACLs.

🔍 Detection

Search webserver/proxy logs for unusual request patterns matching this CVE's known IOCs. Run grep -r 'AirSane' . against your dependency files (package-lock.json, requirements.txt, go.sum) to find affected services.

Response actions

Concrete steps and command examples for SOC/SRE teams to execute in order

  1. 1
    Identify exposure identify
    grep -r 'AirSane' . | grep -v node_modules

    リポジトリと本番環境の依存ファイル (package-lock.json / requirements.txt / go.sum / Gemfile.lock 等) で AirSane を grep し、稼働しているサービス・バージョンを把握する。

  2. 2
    Post-deployment verification verify
Confirm patched version is live in production

    パッチ適用後、ステージングで PoC または同等の悪用パターンを再現して脆弱性が閉じたことを確認。本番ではアクセスログ・WAF でアラート再発が無いか継続監視。
