CVE-2026-55195

Vulnerability in py7zr (CVE-2026-55195)

Summary

Vulnerability in py7zr (CVE-2026-55195). Risk of unauthorized operations or information disclosure. Exploitable via zipfile. Mitigation: upgrade to 1.1.3 or later.

Original description

The description as published by the source.

py7zr is a Python-based library and utility to support 7zip archive compression, decompression, encryption and decryption. Prior to 1.1.3, py7zr's Worker.decompress() extracted archive entries without tracking total decompressed size, allowing a crafted .7z file such as a 15.6 KB archive that expands to 100 MB to exhaust disk or memory before extraction completes. This issue is fixed in version 1.1.3.

Response actions

Concrete steps and command examples for SOC/SRE teams to execute in order

  1. 1
    Identify exposure identify
    grep -r 'py7zr' . | grep -v node_modules

  2. 2
    Apply patch patch
    Upgrade py7zr to 1.1.3

  3. 3
    Post-deployment verification verify
Confirm patched version is live in production
