Path Traversal in LinuxCNC (CVE-2026-58302)
Summary
Path traversal in LinuxCNC (CVE-2026-58302). Successful exploitation can lead to full system takeover.
Original description
The description as published by the source.
rtapi_app in linuxcnc-uspace in LinuxCNC before 2.9.9 allows privilege escalation. It is installed SUID root and loads shared library modules via dlopen() by using a user-supplied module name. Insufficient validation of the module name allows path traversal, enabling an unprivileged local user to load an arbitrary shared library. Because the process retains elevated privileges during module loading, this results in local privilege escalation to root.

Response actions
Concrete steps and command examples for SOC/SRE teams to execute in order
-
1Identify exposure identify
grep -r 'LinuxCNC' . | grep -v node_modulesリポジトリと本番環境の依存ファイル (package-lock.json / requirements.txt / go.sum / Gemfile.lock 等) で
LinuxCNCを grep し、稼働しているサービス・バージョンを把握する。 -
2Post-deployment verification verify
Confirm patched version is live in productionパッチ適用後、ステージングで PoC または同等の悪用パターンを再現して脆弱性が閉じたことを確認。本番ではアクセスログ・WAF でアラート再発が無いか継続監視。
