Out-of-Bounds Read in Contiki-NG (CVE-2026-5855)
Summary
Vulnerability in Contiki-NG (CVE-2026-5855). Risk of unauthorized operations or information disclosure.
Original description
The description as published by the source.
Contiki-NG's LwM2M TLV parser lwm2m_tlv_read() in os/services/lwm2m/lwm2m-tlv.c ignores its caller-supplied buffer length argument and reads up to six bytes from the input buffer with no bounds check. The caller in lwm2m-engine.c iterates while there is at least one byte remaining, so a crafted CoAP WRITE to any LwM2M endpoint whose final TLV supplies exactly one byte triggers up to five out-of-bounds reads of heap memory adjacent to the CoAP input buffer, disclosing memory contents (including key material and peer addresses) through the parsed tlv->id, tlv->length, and tlv->value fields. Corrupted tlv_len derived from the out-of-bounds memory further corrupts the caller's parse offset. In LwM2M NoSec mode, the default for constrained devices, no authentication is required.

CVE-2026-5855 (Contiki-NG) — CWE-125 / CVSS v3 7.5
Attack vector: remote (network-reachable) / unauthenticated / no user interaction
Plan: 1) Audit SBOM/dependencies, 2) Stage→prod upgrade, 3) Add WAF/proxy monitoring on affected endpoints, 4) Hunt IOCs in logs.
Refs: see the GHSA / vendor advisory / patched release linked on this page.
Out-of-bounds read (CWE-125) exists in Contiki-NG.
Check the vendor advisory for the affected versions of Contiki-NG.
Severity: High (CVSS 7.5/10). Risk of unauthorized operations or information disclosure.
Update to the patched release per vendor advisory.
Until the patch is applied: disable the affected feature, apply WAF rules, or restrict access via network ACLs.
Search webserver/proxy logs for unusual request patterns matching this CVE's known IOCs. Run grep -r 'Contiki-NG' . against your dependency files (package-lock.json, requirements.txt, go.sum) to find affected services.

-
1Identify exposure identify
grep -r 'Contiki-NG' . | grep -v node_modulesリポジトリと本番環境の依存ファイル (package-lock.json / requirements.txt / go.sum / Gemfile.lock 等) で
Contiki-NGを grep し、稼働しているサービス・バージョンを把握する。 -
2Post-deployment verification verify
Confirm patched version is live in productionパッチ適用後、ステージングで PoC または同等の悪用パターンを再現して脆弱性が閉じたことを確認。本番ではアクセスログ・WAF でアラート再発が無いか継続監視。
