CVE-2026-61459 critical CVSS 9.8

Vulnerability in mcp-server-kubernetes (CVE-2026-61459)

Summary

Vulnerability in mcp-server-kubernetes (CVE-2026-61459). Successful exploitation can lead to full system takeover. Mitigation: upgrade to 3.9.0 or later.

Original description

The description as published by the source.

MCP Server Kubernetes before 3.9.0 contains an argument injection vulnerability in structured tools (kubectl_get, kubectl_describe, kubectl_delete) that allows attackers to bypass the assertNoDangerousFlags security check by supplying resourceType and name parameters with leading dashes. Attackers can inject the --server flag to redirect kubectl commands to an attacker-controlled API server, causing the operator's bearer token to be transmitted externally and enabling full cluster compromise.

Response actions

Concrete steps and command examples for SOC/SRE teams to execute in order

  1. 1
    Identify exposure identify
    grep -r 'mcp-server-kubernetes' . | grep -v node_modules

  2. 2
    Apply patch patch
    Upgrade mcp-server-kubernetes to 3.9.0

  3. 3
    Post-deployment verification verify
Confirm patched version is live in production
