Information Disclosure in Wazuh (CVE-2026-61802)

Summary

Vulnerability in Wazuh (CVE-2026-61802). Confidential information can be exposed externally. Exploitable via GET /cluster/local/config..

Original description

The description as published by the source.

Wazuh is an open-source security platform providing unified XDR and SIEM protection for endpoints and cloud workloads. In versions 4.14.0 through 4.14.6, a low-privilege API user can read the cleartext cluster key from a configuration endpoint that fails to redact it. The REST API provides a masking control, mask_sensitive_config, that redacts sensitive fields such as authd.pass and cluster.key from configuration responses for users who lack update-config permission, and every config-read endpoint carries this decorator except GET /cluster/local/config. That endpoint, backed by read_config_wrapper, is gated only by cluster:read and returns the local node's cluster configuration including the cleartext key, whereas its siblings return the same value masked. As a result, any account with the default readonly or cluster_readonly role, which is explicitly denied update-config precisely so it cannot view secrets, receives the real cluster key. Because the cluster key authenticates and encrypts traffic between cluster nodes, disclosing it to an unprivileged account provides the authentication precondition for the cluster-peer remote code execution chains established by prior advisories. This issue is fixed in version 4.14.

❓ What is the problem

Information disclosure (CWE-200) exists in Wazuh. Attackers reach the vulnerable code path via GET /cluster/local/config..

📍 Affected scope

Check the vendor advisory for the affected versions of Wazuh. Attack surface: GET /cluster/local/config..

🔥 Severity

Severity: Medium (CVSS 6.5/10). Confidential information can be exposed externally.

🔧 How to fix

Update to the patched release per vendor advisory.

🛡️ Workaround

Until the patch is applied: disable the affected feature, apply WAF rules, or restrict access via network ACLs.

🔍 Detection

Search webserver/proxy logs for unusual GET /cluster/local/config. requests with malformed payloads or SQL meta-characters. Run grep -r 'Wazuh' . against your dependency files (package-lock.json, requirements.txt, go.sum) to find affected services.

Response actions

Concrete steps and command examples for SOC/SRE teams to execute in order

  1. 1
    Identify exposure identify
    grep -r 'Wazuh' . | grep -v node_modules

    リポジトリと本番環境の依存ファイル (package-lock.json / requirements.txt / go.sum / Gemfile.lock 等) で Wazuh を grep し、稼働しているサービス・バージョンを把握する。

  2. 2
Hunt for indicators of compromise detect
    grep 'GET /cluster/local/config.' /var/log/nginx/access.log | grep -E '(unusual_payload|sqli_pattern)'

    アクセスログで GET /cluster/local/config. への異常なリクエスト (不正な認証ヘッダ・SQLメタ文字)を過去 30〜90日分捜索。WAF/SIEM があれば該当パスのアラート発火履歴を確認。

  3. 3
    Post-deployment verification verify
Replay attack against GET /cluster/local/config. on staging to confirm patch closes the vector

    パッチ適用後、ステージングで PoC または同等の悪用パターンを再現して脆弱性が閉じたことを確認。本番では Step 2 と同じログクエリでアラート再発が無いか継続監視。
