Unsafe Deserialization in kotaemon (CVE-2026-69098)
Summary
Vulnerability in kotaemon (CVE-2026-69098). Successful exploitation can lead to full system takeover.
Original description
The description as published by the source.
kotaemon through 0.12.0 contains an insecure deserialization vulnerability in the check_connection endpoint that allows unauthenticated attackers to instantiate arbitrary Python classes by supplying crafted YAML/JSON input with a type field. Attackers can exploit this to override the type field with subprocess.check_output and arbitrary arguments, achieving remote code execution with application process privileges.

-
1Identify exposure identify
grep -r 'kotaemon' . | grep -v node_modulesリポジトリと本番環境の依存ファイル (package-lock.json / requirements.txt / go.sum / Gemfile.lock 等) で
kotaemonを grep し、稼働しているサービス・バージョンを把握する。 -
2Post-deployment verification verify
Confirm patched version is live in productionパッチ適用後、ステージングで PoC または同等の悪用パターンを再現して脆弱性が閉じたことを確認。本番ではアクセスログ・WAF でアラート再発が無いか継続監視。
