A server-side request forgery (SSRF) vulnerability was found in AWX's webhook status callback...
Summary
SSRF reported (CVE-2026-71365). Confidential information can be exposed externally. Exploitable via Authorization header.
Original description
The description as published by the source.
A server-side request forgery (SSRF) vulnerability was found in AWX's webhook status callback mechanism. When processing GitHub pull request webhooks, AWX extracts the status callback URL (pull_request.statuses_url) from the incoming webhook payload without validating the target host against the expected Git provider. This URL is persisted in job extra variables and later used to send authenticated status updates. A user with admin role on a webhook-enabled job template can read the template's webhook signing key, forge a signed GitHub webhook payload with an arbitrary statuses_url, and cause AWX to POST status updates to an attacker-controlled or internal URL. The status update request includes the configured Git Personal Access Token (PAT) in the Authorization header, resulting in credential leakage to the attacker-specified endpoint.

CVE-2026-71365 — CWE-918 / CVSS v3 7.7
Attack vector: remote (network-reachable) / no user interaction
Attack surface: Authorization header
Plan: 1) Audit SBOM/dependencies, 2) Stage→prod upgrade, 3) Add WAF/proxy monitoring on affected endpoints, 4) Hunt IOCs in logs.
Refs: see the GHSA / vendor advisory / patched release linked on this page.
SSRF (CWE-918) has been reported. Attackers reach the vulnerable code path via Authorization header.
Check the vendor advisory for the affected versions. Attack surface: Authorization header.
Severity: High (CVSS 7.7/10). Confidential information can be exposed externally.
Update to the patched release per vendor advisory.
Until the patch is applied: disable the affected feature, apply WAF rules, or restrict access via network ACLs.
Search webserver/proxy logs for unusual request patterns matching this CVE's known IOCs. Audit SBOM/dependencies to find affected services.

Concrete steps and command examples for SOC/SRE teams to execute in order
-
1Identify exposure identify
Audit SBOM/dependencies for affected components.資産台帳・SBOM・依存マニフェストで影響コンポーネントを特定する。
-
2Post-deployment verification verify
Confirm patched version is live in productionパッチ適用後、ステージングで PoC または同等の悪用パターンを再現して脆弱性が閉じたことを確認。本番ではアクセスログ・WAF でアラート再発が無いか継続監視。
