Vulnerability in U-Boot (CVE-2026-71973)
Summary
Vulnerability in U-Boot (CVE-2026-71973). Risk of unauthorized operations or information disclosure.
Original description
The description as published by the source.
U-Boot before 2026.10-rc4 contains an integer overflow vulnerability in sqfs_read_directory_table() function when allocating the directory table buffer. Attackers can supply a crafted SquashFS image with an attacker-controlled superblock metablks_count value that causes heap buffer under-allocation and out-of-bounds writes, corrupting heap memory and crashing the bootloader.

Response actions
Concrete steps and command examples for SOC/SRE teams to execute in order
-
1Identify exposure identify
grep -r 'U-Boot' . | grep -v node_modulesリポジトリと本番環境の依存ファイル (package-lock.json / requirements.txt / go.sum / Gemfile.lock 等) で
U-Bootを grep し、稼働しているサービス・バージョンを把握する。 -
2Post-deployment verification verify
Confirm patched version is live in productionパッチ適用後、ステージングで PoC または同等の悪用パターンを再現して脆弱性が閉じたことを確認。本番ではアクセスログ・WAF でアラート再発が無いか継続監視。
