Vulnerability in Elastic Kibana (CVE-2026-72664)

Summary

Vulnerability in Elastic Kibana (CVE-2026-72664). Data can be tampered with by attackers.

Original description

The description as published by the source.

Missing Authorization (CWE-862) in Kibana can lead to unauthorized execution of Elastic Defend response actions on managed hosts via Accessing Functionality Not Properly Constrained by ACLs (CAPEC-1). A Kibana user who holds only detection rule authoring privileges for the Elastic Security solution can associate automated endpoint response actions with a detection rule, even though the dedicated Endpoint response action privileges that govern those capabilities (host isolation, process operations, and execute operations) have not been granted to that user. When such a rule generates alerts, the associated response actions are carried out against the matching hosts.

🔍 Detection

Search webserver/proxy logs for unusual request patterns matching this CVE's known IOCs. Run grep -r 'Kibana' . against your dependency files (package-lock.json, requirements.txt, go.sum) to find affected services.

Response actions

Concrete steps and command examples for SOC/SRE teams to execute in order

  1. 1
    Identify exposure identify
    grep -r 'Kibana' . | grep -v node_modules

    リポジトリと本番環境の依存ファイル (package-lock.json / requirements.txt / go.sum / Gemfile.lock 等) で Kibana を grep し、稼働しているサービス・バージョンを把握する。

  2. 2
    Post-deployment verification verify
Confirm patched version is live in production

    パッチ適用後、ステージングで PoC または同等の悪用パターンを再現して脆弱性が閉じたことを確認。本番ではアクセスログ・WAF でアラート再発が無いか継続監視。
