Path Traversal in DB-GPT (CVE-2026-73034)

Summary

Path traversal in DB-GPT (CVE-2026-73034). Successful exploitation can lead to full system takeover.

Original description

The description as published by the source.

DB-GPT v0.8.1 contains an unauthenticated path traversal vulnerability that allows remote attackers to write arbitrary files to any location on the server by injecting directory traversal sequences into the user_id HTTP header of the Python file-upload endpoint. Attackers can send a crafted multipart upload request with a traversal-poisoned user_id header to escape the intended upload directory and write attacker-controlled content to locations such as Python startup hooks, cron directories, or agent scripts, resulting in remote code execution.

❓ What is the problem

Path traversal (CWE-22) exists in DB-GPT.

📍 Affected scope

Check the vendor advisory for the affected versions of DB-GPT.

🔥 Severity

Severity: Critical (CVSS 9.8/10). Successful exploitation can lead to full system takeover.

🔧 How to fix

Update to the patched release per vendor advisory.

🛡️ Workaround

Until the patch is applied: disable the affected feature, apply WAF rules, or restrict access via network ACLs.

🔍 Detection

Search webserver/proxy logs for unusual request patterns matching this CVE's known IOCs. Run grep -r 'DB-GPT' . against your dependency files (package-lock.json, requirements.txt, go.sum) to find affected services.

Response actions

Concrete steps and command examples for SOC/SRE teams to execute in order

  1. 1
    Identify exposure identify
    grep -r 'DB-GPT' . | grep -v node_modules

    リポジトリと本番環境の依存ファイル (package-lock.json / requirements.txt / go.sum / Gemfile.lock 等) で DB-GPT を grep し、稼働しているサービス・バージョンを把握する。

  2. 2
    Post-deployment verification verify
Confirm patched version is live in production

    パッチ適用後、ステージングで PoC または同等の悪用パターンを再現して脆弱性が閉じたことを確認。本番ではアクセスログ・WAF でアラート再発が無いか継続監視。
