Code Injection in MindsDB Minds Platform (CVE-2026-73678)
Summary
Code injection in MindsDB Minds Platform (CVE-2026-73678). Successful exploitation can lead to full system takeover. Exploitable via POST /api/v1/responses/.
Original description
The description as published by the source.
MindsDB Minds Platform version 26.1.0 and earlier contains an unauthenticated remote code execution vulnerability that allows unauthenticated attackers to execute arbitrary OS commands by submitting crafted prompts to the unprotected POST /api/v1/responses/ endpoint, which reaches the Anton agent's scratchpad tool that calls exec() on attacker-influenced Python source without sandboxing. Attackers can first configure their own LLM API key through the unauthenticated PUT /api/v1/settings/ endpoint, then POST a prompt directing the agent to invoke the scratchpad tool with arbitrary Python code, achieving full OS command execution as the user running the desktop application and enabling access to SSH keys, stored credentials, and environment secrets.

CVE-2026-73678 (MindsDB Minds Platform) — CWE-94 / CVSS v3 10.0
Attack vector: remote (network-reachable) / unauthenticated / no user interaction
Attack surface: POST /api/v1/responses/ / PUT /api/v1/settings/
Plan: 1) Audit SBOM/dependencies, 2) Stage→prod upgrade, 3) Add WAF/proxy monitoring on affected endpoints, 4) Hunt IOCs in logs.
Refs: see the GHSA / vendor advisory / patched release linked on this page.
Arbitrary code execution (CWE-94) exists in MindsDB Minds Platform. Attackers reach the vulnerable code path via POST /api/v1/responses/ without authentication.
Check the vendor advisory for the affected versions of MindsDB Minds Platform. Attack surface: POST /api/v1/responses/ / PUT /api/v1/settings/.
Severity: Critical (CVSS 10.0/10). Successful exploitation can lead to full system takeover.
Update to the patched release per vendor advisory.
Until the patch is applied: disable the affected feature, apply WAF rules, or restrict access via network ACLs.
Search webserver/proxy logs for unusual POST /api/v1/responses/ requests with malformed payloads or SQL meta-characters. Audit SBOM/dependencies to find affected services.
