CVE-2026-77606 medium CVSS 6.1

Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) in mediawiki/semantic-media-wiki (CVE-2026-77606)

Summary

Cross-site scripting in mediawiki/semantic-media-wiki (CVE-2026-77606). Risk of unauthorized operations or information disclosure. Exploitable via mainlabel. Mitigation: upgrade to 7.2.0 or later.

Original description

The description as published by the source.

Failure mode

When headers=plain, table header text was emitted into `` via a raw HTML path. User-controlled mainlabel content could therefore become executable HTML.

Remediation

  • TableResultPrinter now applies output-context escaping before passing plain headers to the table renderer.
  • The fix is limited to the HTML/plain-header branch so safe rendering modes are unaffected.

Why this is the right layer

The header value is not a structural token; it is display data. Sanitizing it at the sink is correct because the renderer owns the final HTML emission.

Response actions

Concrete steps and command examples for SOC/SRE teams to execute in order

  1. 1
    Identify exposure identify
    grep -r 'mediawiki/semantic-media-wiki' . | grep -v node_modules

    リポジトリと本番環境の依存ファイル (package-lock.json / requirements.txt / go.sum / Gemfile.lock 等) で mediawiki/semantic-media-wiki を grep し、稼働しているサービス・バージョンを把握する。

  2. 2
    Apply patch patch
    Upgrade mediawiki/semantic-media-wiki to 7.2.0

    ステージング環境で 7.2.0 に上げて回帰テスト → 本番反映。回帰テストはアプリの主要ハッピーパスを含めること。

  3. 3
    Post-deployment verification verify
Confirm patched version is live in production

    パッチ適用後、ステージングで PoC または同等の悪用パターンを再現して脆弱性が閉じたことを確認。本番ではアクセスログ・WAF でアラート再発が無いか継続監視。
