Code Injection in Smarty (CVE-2026-82531)
Summary
Code injection in Smarty (CVE-2026-82531). Successful exploitation can lead to full system takeover.
Original description
The description as published by the source.
Smarty before 4.5.8 and 5.x before 5.8.5 contains a code injection vulnerability where the top-level nocache_hash is never restored during extends:/multi-component template inheritance, leaving it null. Attackers can supply assigned data containing a forged SmartyNocache marker that is copied verbatim into the regenerated PHP cache file, executing arbitrary PHP on include for remote code execution.

Concrete steps and command examples for SOC/SRE teams to execute in order
-
1Identify exposure identify
grep -r 'Smarty' . | grep -v node_modulesリポジトリと本番環境の依存ファイル (package-lock.json / requirements.txt / go.sum / Gemfile.lock 等) で
Smartyを grep し、稼働しているサービス・バージョンを把握する。 -
2Post-deployment verification verify
Confirm patched version is live in productionパッチ適用後、ステージングで PoC または同等の悪用パターンを再現して脆弱性が閉じたことを確認。本番ではアクセスログ・WAF でアラート再発が無いか継続監視。
