CVE-2026-97055 high CVSS 8.1

Vulnerability in SigNoz (CVE-2026-97055)

Summary

Vulnerability in SigNoz (CVE-2026-97055). Successful exploitation can lead to full system takeover. Mitigation: upgrade to 0.143.0 or later.

Original description

The description as published by the source.

SigNoz from v0.8.0 before v0.143.0 defaults the JWT tokenizer signing secret (tokenizer::jwt::secret, set via SIGNOZ_TOKENIZER_JWT_SECRET or the deprecated SIGNOZ_JWT_SECRET) to an empty string, and Config.Validate() does not reject the empty value, so a deployment that does not configure a secret starts up and both signs and verifies session tokens with an empty HMAC key. Because the JWT tokenizer was the default provider, any such deployment is affected. An unauthenticated attacker who knows the ID of an existing user can forge a valid session token for that user — including an administrator — by signing the id, orgId and email claims with an empty key; the organization ID (and whether an email is registered) can be obtained without authentication from /api/v2/sessions/context. A forged refresh token can be exchanged at /api/v2/sessions/rotate for a new token pair and cannot be revoked, so it remains usable for its full lifetime (30 days by default). Fixed in v0.143.0, which requires a JWT secret when the jwt provider is selected and changes the default provider to opaque.

❓ What is the problem

A vulnerability (CWE-1188) exists in SigNoz.

📍 Affected scope

Check the vendor advisory for the affected versions of SigNoz.

🔥 Severity

Severity: High (CVSS 8.1/10). Successful exploitation can lead to full system takeover.

🔧 How to fix

Update to 0.143.0.

🛡️ Workaround

Until the patch is applied: disable the affected feature, apply WAF rules, or restrict access via network ACLs.

🔍 Detection

Search webserver/proxy logs for unusual request patterns matching this CVE's known IOCs. Run grep -r 'SigNoz' . against your dependency files (package-lock.json, requirements.txt, go.sum) to find affected services.

Response actions

Concrete steps and command examples for SOC/SRE teams to execute in order

  1. 1
    Identify exposure identify
    grep -r 'SigNoz' . | grep -v node_modules

    リポジトリと本番環境の依存ファイル (package-lock.json / requirements.txt / go.sum / Gemfile.lock 等) で SigNoz を grep し、稼働しているサービス・バージョンを把握する。

  2. 2
    Apply patch patch
    Upgrade SigNoz to 0.143.0

    ステージング環境で 0.143.0 に上げて回帰テスト → 本番反映。回帰テストはアプリの主要ハッピーパスを含めること。

  3. 3
    Post-deployment verification verify
Confirm patched version is live in production

    パッチ適用後、ステージングで PoC または同等の悪用パターンを再現して脆弱性が閉じたことを確認。本番ではアクセスログ・WAF でアラート再発が無いか継続監視。
