Summary

Vulnerability in incus (DEBIAN-CVE-2026-48751). Successful exploitation can lead to full system takeover. Exploitable via raw.lxc. Mitigation: upgrade to 6.0.4-2+deb13u8 or later.

Original description

The description as published by the source.

Incus is a system container and virtual machine manager. Prior to version 7.2.0, instance snapshots ignore the restricted.containers.lowlevel=block setting; allowing for arbitrary command execution on the Incus server by abusing lowlevel hooks such as raw.lxc and raw.qemu. Version 7.2.0 patches the issue.

Response actions

Concrete steps and command examples for SOC/SRE teams to execute in order

  1. 1
    Identify exposure identify
    grep -r 'incus' . | grep -v node_modules

  2. 2
    Apply patch patch
    Upgrade incus to 6.0.4-2+deb13u8

  3. 3
    Post-deployment verification verify
Confirm patched version is live in production
