What is the problem

A vulnerability (unclassified) exists in linux-hwe-edge.

Affected scope

Check the vendor advisory for the affected versions of linux-hwe-edge.

Severity

Severity: ?. Risk of unauthorized operations or information disclosure.

How to fix

Update to 6.8.0-1023.25~22.04.1.

Workaround

Until the patch is applied: disable the affected feature, apply WAF rules, or restrict access via network ACLs.

Detection

Search webserver/proxy logs for unusual request patterns matching this CVE's known IOCs. Run grep -r 'linux-hwe-edge' . against your dependency files (package-lock.json, requirements.txt, go.sum) to find affected services.

Response actions

Concrete steps and command examples for SOC/SRE teams to execute in order

  1. 1
    Identify exposureidentify
    grep -r 'linux-hwe-edge' . | grep -v node_modules

    リポジトリと本番環境の依存ファイル (package-lock.json / requirements.txt / go.sum / Gemfile.lock 等) で linux-hwe-edge を grep し、稼働しているサービス・バージョンを把握する。

  2. 2
    Apply patchpatch
    Upgrade linux-hwe-edge to 6.8.0-1023.25~22.04.1

    ステージング環境で 6.8.0-1023.25~22.04.1 に上げて回帰テスト → 本番反映。回帰テストはアプリの主要ハッピーパスを含めること。

  3. 3
    Post-deployment verificationverify
Confirm patched version is live in production

    パッチ適用後、ステージングで PoC または同等の悪用パターンを再現して脆弱性が閉じたことを確認。本番ではアクセスログ・WAF でアラート再発が無いか継続監視。

Original description The description as published by the source.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf: Fail verification for sign-extension of packet data/data_end/data_meta syzbot reported a kernel crash due to commit 1f1e864b6555 ("bpf: Handle sign-extenstin ctx member accesses"). The reason is due to sign-extension of 32-bit load for packet data/data_end/data_meta uapi field. The original code looks like: r2 = *(s32 )(r1 + 76) / load __sk_buff->data */ r3 = *(u32 )(r1 + 80) / load __sk_buff->data_end */ r0 = r2 r0 += 8 if r3 > r0 goto +1 ... Note that __sk_buff->data load has 32-bit sign extension. After verification and convert_ctx_accesses(), the final asm code looks like: r2 = *(u64 *)(r1 +208) r2 = (s32)r2 r3 = *(u64 *)(r1 +80) r0 = r2 r0 += 8 if r3 > r0 goto pc+1 ... Note that 'r2 = (s32)r2' may make the kernel __sk_buff->data address invalid which may cause runtime failure. Currently, in C code, typically we have void *data = (void *)(long)skb->data; void *data_end = (void *)(long)skb->data_end; ... and it will generate r2 = *(u64 *)(r1 +208) r3 = *(u64 *)(r1 +80) r0 = r2 r0 += 8 if r3 > r0 goto pc+1 If we allow sign-extension, void *data = (void *)(long)(int)skb->data; void *data_end = (void *)(long)skb->data_end; ... the generated code looks like r2 = *(u64 *)(r1 +208) r2 <<= 32…
