Vulnerability in xdg-dbus-proxy (UBUNTU-CVE-2026-34080)

Summary

Vulnerability in xdg-dbus-proxy (UBUNTU-CVE-2026-34080). Confidential information can be exposed externally. Mitigation: upgrade to 0.1.7 or later.

Original description

The description as published by the source.

xdg-dbus-proxy is a filtering proxy for D-Bus connections. Prior to 0.1.7, a policy parser vulnerability allows bypassing eavesdrop restrictions. The proxy checks for eavesdrop=true in policy rules but fails to handle eavesdrop ='true' (with a space before the equals sign) and similar cases. Clients can intercept D-Bus messages they should not have access to. This vulnerability is fixed in 0.1.7.

Response actions

Concrete steps and command examples for SOC/SRE teams to execute in order

  1. 1
    Identify exposure identify
    grep -r 'xdg-dbus-proxy' . | grep -v node_modules

  2. 2
    Apply patch patch
    Upgrade xdg-dbus-proxy to 0.1.7

  3. 3
    Post-deployment verification verify
Confirm patched version is live in production
