Vulnerability in ntopng (UBUNTU-CVE-2026-38968)
Summary
Vulnerability in ntopng (UBUNTU-CVE-2026-38968). Successful exploitation can lead to full system takeover.
Original description
The description as published by the source.
ntopng through 6.6 is vulnerable to Predictable Session Identifier which can lead to Session Hijacking. HTTP session identifiers in src/HTTPserver.cpp use weak time-seeded pseudo-randomness during session creation. As a result, fresh authenticated logins can receive deterministic or colliding session cookies under attacker-controlled timing.

Response actions
Concrete steps and command examples for SOC/SRE teams to execute in order
-
1Identify exposure identify
grep -r 'ntopng' . | grep -v node_modulesリポジトリと本番環境の依存ファイル (package-lock.json / requirements.txt / go.sum / Gemfile.lock 等) で
ntopngを grep し、稼働しているサービス・バージョンを把握する。 -
2Post-deployment verification verify
Confirm patched version is live in productionパッチ適用後、ステージングで PoC または同等の悪用パターンを再現して脆弱性が閉じたことを確認。本番ではアクセスログ・WAF でアラート再発が無いか継続監視。
