Vulnerability in coturn (UBUNTU-CVE-2026-65981)
Summary
Vulnerability in coturn (UBUNTU-CVE-2026-65981). Confidential information can be exposed externally.
Original description
The description as published by the source.
Coturn is a free open source implementation of TURN and STUN Server. Prior to 4.15.0, a server using --mobility authenticates a resumed REFRESH request with the resuming user's credentials but does not verify that identity against the original allocation owner, allowing an authenticated attacker who obtains a victim MOBILITY-TICKET to receive and inject relayed traffic and consume the victim's quota. In the handle_turn_refresh resume branch, the victim allocation (orig_ss) is located solely by the attacker-controlled mobile id, and credentials are only adopted (via copy_auth_parameters) when the resuming session is unauthenticated. Because the attacker's session already has hmackey_set set to 1 from its own prior authentication (which is never reset for long-term-credential sessions), the credential copy is skipped and check_stun_auth validates the REFRESH against the attacker's own identity rather than the allocation owner's. This issue is fixed in version 4.15.0.

UBUNTU-CVE-2026-65981 (coturn)
Attack vector: remote (network-reachable) / no user interaction
Plan: 1) Audit SBOM/dependencies, 2) Stage→prod upgrade, 3) Add WAF/proxy monitoring on affected endpoints, 4) Hunt IOCs in logs.
Refs: see the GHSA / vendor advisory / patched release linked on this page.
A vulnerability (unclassified) exists in coturn.
Check the vendor advisory for the affected versions of coturn.
Severity: ?. Confidential information can be exposed externally.
Update to the patched release per vendor advisory.
Until the patch is applied: disable the affected feature, apply WAF rules, or restrict access via network ACLs.
Search webserver/proxy logs for unusual request patterns matching this CVE's known IOCs. Run grep -r 'coturn' . against your dependency files (package-lock.json, requirements.txt, go.sum) to find affected services.
Response actions
Concrete steps and command examples for SOC/SRE teams to execute in order
-
1Identify exposure identify
grep -r 'coturn' . | grep -v node_modulesリポジトリと本番環境の依存ファイル (package-lock.json / requirements.txt / go.sum / Gemfile.lock 等) で
coturnを grep し、稼働しているサービス・バージョンを把握する。 -
2Post-deployment verification verify
Confirm patched version is live in productionパッチ適用後、ステージングで PoC または同等の悪用パターンを再現して脆弱性が閉じたことを確認。本番ではアクセスログ・WAF でアラート再発が無いか継続監視。
